Bunion Causes, Bunions Big Toe Pain Tenderness Treatment and Surgery Removal Relief
What is a bunion? Well, it is that bony, protruding bump you may notice off the base of some people’s big toe. In extreme cases. the big toe turns in toward the one beside it. Those with bunions can experience extreme pain and tenderness wearing improper footwear.
Unfortunately, I personally know about this pain. Fortunately, I’ve discovered a nifty way for pain avoidance. It’s all about the shoe. My first priority for shoe purchases has little to do with cute, and everything to do with wide.
For me, my inherited shape of my feet resulted in bunions long, long ago. In fact, I don’t recall never having them, nearly half a century of recollection.
For others, one can end up with a bunion or two via causes by:
- as a result of flat feet
- wearing shoes that are way, way too tight
- the way their foot rolls inward (over-pronation)
All of these causes put pressure on the big toe joint, which forces it out of alignment.
Wearing shoes that are too tight around the base of the big toe will cause bunion sufferers such extreme pain that walking becomes impossible due to that joint’s inflammation. Been there!
If you have bunions the best pain treatment and relief is to stop wearing those shoes, the ones that hurt your feet. Walking or standing long periods of time in high heels or narrow shoes should be out of the question.
Custom-made shoe inserts (orthotics) is an available treatment. This pain relief method helps take the pressure off the bunion area.
And of course, there’s always bunion removal surgery. This trim and realignment option is considered after all other pain relief methods fail.
This surgery was not advised for my situation due to my active running lifestyle. High potential for throwing other joints out of alignment, i.e. knee and hip. No Thanx!
Proper footwear can prevent, or reduce out of alignment bunion progression. Wearing roomy shoes, low or flat heels, and good arch supports will take you a long way.
